Single Sign-On (SSO) is an authentication process that allows an employee to access multiple applications or services with one set of login credentials (such as a username and password). Once the employee is logged into one application, they can access other related applications without having to log in again.
SSO is widely used in both corporate environments and web services to enhance user experience and security.
In this article, we will explain the following:
- The Benefits of a Single Sign-on (SSO)
- What types of SSO does Studytube support?
- What if not every employee is allowed to log in via SSO?
- Sounds great! How can I set up such an SSO?
The Benefits of a Single Sign-on (SSO)
SSO offers several advantages:
- Ease of Use: Users do not need to remember multiple usernames and passwords for different applications. One login provides access to all authorized services.
- Security: By reducing the number of passwords users need to manage, SSO can decrease the likelihood of password fatigue and poor password practices. Additionally, it centralizes authentication, making it easier to enforce strong security policies.
- Efficiency: SSO reduces the time and effort required to log into multiple systems, which can increase productivity.
- Centralized Management: IT administrators can manage user accounts and permissions from a central location, simplifying the process of adding, updating, or removing user access.
What types of SSO does Studytube support?
Studytube supports the following standard SSO types:
- AFAS
- OpenID
- SAML
- Azure AD/Entra
- G-suite
What if not every employee is allowed to log in via SSO?
It is also possible to allow some employees to log in with SSO and others without it. This is useful, for example, when you have interns or other external employees who are not in your SSO system. In this case, all employees will have two login options:
- Login with your organisation account: Here, the employee can log in with the organisation’s login credentials.
- Login: Here, the employee can log in with the self-chosen email address and password for Studytube.
