It is possible to add an open or closed question. You can add an open question by means of a text assignment or a completion assignment. If you want to add a closed question, choose the option “Single choice” or “Multiple choice.”
Adding closed questions
You can choose from a single choice or multiple choice question. Single choice means that only one answer is correct and that you can only choose one answer. Multiple choice question means that more than one answer is correct.
The first form of a closed question is a single choice. To add this to your online course, click on the plus sign and then on “Single choice.” Provide a title for the question. Enter your question in the text box, and give the answer options underneath. You can add multiple answer fields via “Add answer possibility”. By selecting the appropriate radio button, you indicate which answer is the correct one. If the question does not have a correct or incorrect answer, you can disable this option by leaving 'correct answer option' empty.
You can give feedback underneath the answer fields. It is best to always give feedback, even if the user has given the correct answer. It is possible that someone guesses the correct answer. By giving feedback, the person can still learn from it. You can give feedback for each answer option, but you can also give feedback on the entire question. Or you can do both of course. An adaptive learning track can be enabled when the user gives the wrong answer to a closed question. You can configure this when you want to share extra information.
In addition to single choice questions, there are also multiple choice questions. Click on the plus sign and select “Multiple choice.” Provide a title for the question again. Enter your question and answer options in the same way as for a single choice question. Then select the check marks for the correct answers. With a multiple choice question, you can only give feedback on the entire question, not for each answer. It’s best to always give feedback here, both on the right and wrong answers. Below you will find an example of how the closed questions are displayed on the Academy.
Adding open questions
The first form of an open question is a ‘Text assignment’. Click on the plus sign and then on text assignment. Name the assignment in the title box and enter your question underneath. An open text field will now automatically appear below the question.
Another type is the ‘Fill the blanks’ assignment. For this type of question, certain terms are omitted from sentences and the user has to complete the sentence with the right term. Do this by inserting a text and removing the key word from the sentence. Place your mouse on the location where the user has to give an answer and click on ‘Add blank’. Enter the correct answer here. You can also opt for a dropdown. This type of question looks almost the same, only the user gets different answer options from which he or she can choose. If you want to add this to your item, click on ‘Add dropdown’, enter two or more answer options and select the correct answer. You can remove an option with the backspace button on your keyboard.
