Create an explanation

Modified on Mon, 11 Sep, 2023 at 2:38 PM

There are eight different types of content you can use. Explanation is the only type in which you give information and therefore explain things. This is the most chosen type. You can give information through text, but also by adding videos and images. When you click on the plus sign in a chapter, the types you can choose from will appear. Click on explanation and a white space will appear in which you can give this item a title. In the text box under the title you enter your content by typing in some text for example.

The format bar in the text box gives you various options to format the content. First of all, you see HTML. If you click here, you’ll see your text in HTML code, allowing you to easily copy an image or video. You also see icons to display text in italics, bold or underlined. Then, you see an icon to add bulleted or numbered lists to the text box.

Next, you’ll see an icon which lets you add a table to the course. If you click here, you’ll see a dropdown. Click on ‘Insert table’ to add a new table. Once you’ve done this, all other options become available.

When you click on the button to the right, you can add a link to the text box. Clicking on the paperclip makes a dropdown appear with various options to add a file to the text box.

It is also possible to align the text. You can choose left, right and centre. In tables you can also choose top, middle or bottom alignment.

With the buttons on the far right, you can correct your last action or undo a corrected action.

You can add a video in several ways. First, create a new item. In the new item, go to the format bar and click video. You can upload a video from your own computer, but you can also embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo. By embedding a video, you can view it in your course, without having to download and then upload it in your course. This way, there is no duplication and therefore no copyright infringement. If you want to upload a video from your computer, make sure the “Upload video” tab is selected and select the correct video from your computer in the upload box. Uploading can sometimes take a while.

If you want to embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo, select the second tab “Add link/iframe” and then enter the link or embed code in the input field.

If you want to remove the video, place your mouse outside the video until it’s surrounded in blue. A black delete button will appear. Click on it to remove the video from your screen. You

can also use the backspace button on your computer.

An image or file can also be added via the option 'File' and 'Image' in the dropdown. Select the image or file you want to upload from your computer to the upload box.

You can also add external sources to your course. You can link to YouTube for example, or GoogleDocs, Sharepoint or e-learnings from other external sources, including interactive options. We have added an iFrame for this in which you can put the embed code(s). There is a 'safe whitelist' from which you can safely use embed codes. This is a list of websites and external sources that you may add to the course for your own use. This includes YouTube, Vimeo, Google and Dropbox. If you can’t add a certain domain via an embed code, you can send an email to service@studytube.nl. Clearly state which domain it concerns and enclose the relevant embed code. Our product team then checks whether this domain meets the quality requirements for it to be added to the whitelist.

Note: data entered in the external documents, learnings etc. is stored in the external source (e.g. Google Docs), and not in the LMS!
